From February, 14th to February, 28th, 2009 Genoa will host the “Carnevale del Mediterraneo”, the first Genoese carnival. The “9 Municipi”, the historical Genoese urban districts will be twinned with as many European towns: Patrasso (Greece), Nizza (France), Tarragona (Spain), Sousse (Tunisia), Viareggio (Italy), La Valletta (Malta), Limassol (Cyprus), Lastovo (Croatia), Gerusalemme (Israel).

Thanks to the partnerships among the different districts of the town, it will be possible to take part to the great Carnevale dei Carnevali, which will be composed by numerous events created by the cultural groups of the “migrantes” (migrants) and by the “Maestri del Carnevale”, the great art directors of the different districts involved. The great carnival will culminate on February, 28th with the “Zena Carnavao”, a great show with music, dance sets, theatre, the masked Treasure Hunt and the great final parade which will ratify the twinship among the nine delegations, coming from the different towns of the Mediterranean area. The masked parade will be split into various music and theatre groups, which will animate the little squares and alleys of our great medieval historical centre.
